Horseshoes and hand grenades
Saturday was one of a regular sort. Until early that afternoon, anyway.
We left the Sevvy's and pulled up to the light on Howell Branch at 436. Just as we reached a complete stop, a Dodge truck and landscaping trailer comes barrelling in front of us. The kid who was in the bed came out the topper window and walked with his hands across the hood of our car as they passed, eventually reaching a stop and every conceivable liquid held in the truck poured out underneath.
Since there were two left-turn lanes, we didn't get a clear view of what was happening until it happened. In a newscast that night, the reporter said that a white car ran a red light (the driver of which had open-heart surgery two weeks prior and was airlifted from the scene), hit the truck and forced it into the car travelling next to it and ending it up inches from us.
The kid was ok, as were the other passengers. It was cool to see how people reacted... by the time I called 911, they had already received 30-odd calls about it and had despatched services. A crowd descended on the scene and rushed to get everyone out of the vehicles. I think they came from the RC races that run in the Market Square parking lot.
We were ok, a scratch or two and some handprints on the car.
There've been a few times I just miss seeing an accident occur. There've been many times I had a twinge and wanted to see it as it happened. That finally worked out. It was like watching a movie.
Seriously, four inches separated us from the truck.
